A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Welcome Commander! Modest Wars is a free turn-based strategy game that puts players in the role of a commanding officer of a military force. The game takes place in a fictional world where several countries are at war, and players must use their strategic skills to lead their army to victory.

You can build and manage a variety of units, each with different strengths and weaknesses, and engage in battle while considering factors such as terrain and attack ranges.

You can test your commanding abilities versus an enemy AI or compete against other players in the game's multiplayer mode.

This game is in development and there are some planned features, which may be implemented in the future such as:

  • Matchmaking / Quickplay
  • Multiplayer Ranking
  • Campaign
  • Map Editor
  • Additional Units (Sea, Air)
  • Fog of War
  • Modding
  • Mobile and Web Release

How to play it:

  • The game is played using mostly your mouse for commanding units and "WASD" keys for camera movement. Use the left mouse button to select units and actions. The right mouse button cancels actions.
  • The terrain is an important factor in Modest Wars. Different types of terrain have different effects on movement and defense. For example, wheeled units can move faster on roads, while forests, mountains and buildings provide cover and decrease the movement speed of units or blocking the movement completely for some units. Those factors determine how far a unit can move in one round.
  • In Modest Wars, you can build units by spending resources on bases you own. The amount of funds you have depends on the number of cities and buildings you control. You can build a variety of units, such as infantry and tanks. Each unit has different strengths and weaknesses, so it's important to have a balanced army.
  • You also need to manage your units carefully. Each unit has a certain amount of health, and if it reaches zero, it is destroyed. You can heal your units by sending them to a building you own.
  • Also the strength of your units is additionally determined by their health: If a unit has half of its health left, it only deals half its original damage.
  • Infantry can capture a building, turning its color to yours and getting access to the functions and funds of that building. Simply move an infantry on a building and select "capture". Depending on the units health it takes multiple rounds to capture a building by repeating the "capture" action.
  • If a QG gets captured, the game ends and the player who lost the QG will lose the game.

The game is made in the Godot 4 engine.

Great game! I can see the Advanced wars inspiration, I only played one game and man, the AI is brutal. It'd be cool if you could inspect the tile your mouse is over by pressing right click, but I guess that's a thing you were planning on doing eventually anyway lol. Another thing that would be cool is if you could create specialized units to build barracks/airports/piers, and more units, that would give it an unique spin, but overall, very fun =)

Thank you for your positive feedback and for sharing your experience playing the game! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. =)

You are right. I definitely plan to implement the tile inspection feature. Regarding your idea for specialized units to build barracks, airports, and piers, I think it's a great suggestion that would add an interesting twist to the gameplay. I will certainly take this into consideration as I plan for future updates.

If you have any more suggestions or feedback, feel free to reach out.
